Context: Star Wars: Rebels

Imperial Combat Drivers serve in the Imperial Army primarily as operators of the All Terrain Defense Pods (AT-DP). Because of their skilled proficiency in the handling and manipulation of combat machinery, the drivers are sometimes assigned to the operation of other cavalry units, such as speeder patrols.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GML's and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Combat Driver Helmet.jpg Helmet
  • Open faced style helmet shell consists of a dome (with a rim along the bottom edge), a helmet skirt along the sides and back, and a faceplate.
  • Dome and Skirt:
    • Dome and skirt are painted a very light shade of grey.
    • (2) thin parallel lines over the top of the dome, extending from the front brow line to back.
    • Red inverted "triple-triangle" in the center of the dome, at the front.
    • (2) gunship grey Imperial Cogs (3" in diameter) on either side at the front of the dome.
  • "Rebels" style grey / silver Imperial code discs are positioned with one on each side of the skirt.
    • There is (1) thin line extending down the back center of the skirt .
    • 1cm gunship grey painted edging along the entire edge of helmet.
  • Faceplate:
    • Face-plate is white or Very light grey in color.
    • Gunship grey line above the eye sockets.
    • Eye sockets do not meet in the middle & use flat dark lenses.
    • Black frown across the front which angles upward at each side.
    • Two round "Air Filtration Nozzles", one on each side of the mouth, with (2) grey vent lines spaced in the middle between them.
    • Indented cheek lines on either side.




Generic Balaclava.jpg Balaclava
  • A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin and/or facial hair.
  • Balaclava tucks into the flight-suit collar.
  • Balaclava is plain with no logos or decorative stitching.




Combat Driver Suit.jpg Flight Suit
  • Flight Suit is light grey in color.
  • Similar to a standard Imperial Flight Suit, but with a few differences:
    • Collar is a standing collar, meeting in the middle.
      • Not a mandarin style collar.
    • Collar is olive in color.
    • All front pocket flaps have chevron pointed closures.
    • (2) Pockets at the rear (one each side) do not have chevron pointed closures.
    • Extra material reinforcing over the knees.
    • Seam running down the back, from the collar to the waist.
    • Upper Left Arm has a pocket instead of a "Arm Bureau"
    • Compad on wearers left arm, starting above the gauntlet.




CombatDriver shoulder bells.jpg Shoulder Armor
  • Armor is olive or field grey in color.
  • "Rebels" style Stormtrooper shoulders, with (5) equally spaced downward facing rectangles along the bottom.
    • These rectangles are a lighter shade than the armor.
    • Black outlines around each of the 5 Grey rectangles.
    • Grey-green in appearance.
  • (2) white Imperial cogs (one each side) at the top of each shoulder.
    • Cogs are 3.5" diameter.




Combat Driver Compad.jpg Compad
  • Compad is 5cm squared & sits on the Flight Suit, above the Gauntlet, on the Left arm.
  • Compad is black in color.
  • Compad consists of (3) sections:
    • Inset depression takes half of one side of the compad.
    • (2) squares (one white and one red), equally taking the other side.

  • Gauntlet style gloves are constructed from leather or similar material.
  • Olive or field grey in color.
  • Fitted gauntlets with a slight flare.
  • No buckles or straps.
  • Enclosed fingers with no texture.
  • (3) raised lines along the back of the hand.
  • Each gauntlet has a panel reinforcing on the outside.
    • Panel is grey-green in appearance.




Combat Driver Chest.jpg Chest Armor
  • Chest Armor is olive or field grey in color.
  • Chest-plate is similar to that of a Biker Scout, but with a higher neckline and a curved bottom.
  • (6) red squares (3 on each side) at the bottom of chest.
    • The red squares to be outlined in black
  • Chest plate contour lines to be painted black
  • Chest and Back Armor join via shoulder straps over the top.
    • Shoulder straps are smooth and match the color of the armor.
    • Shoulder straps have a small round greeblie at the back.
  • Chest and Back Armor do not meet under the arms
    • No visible straps.




Combat Driver Back.jpg Back Armor
  • Olive or field grey in color.
  • (1) large rectangle in the middle, with a circle contour inside the top right corner.
  • (1) smaller / thinner rectangle sits on top of the larger rectangle.
  • Both rectangles on the Back Armor are outlined in white.
  • (2) small red rectangles spaced under the larger rectangle.
    • One each side.
    • Red rectangles to be outlined in black.
  • Back plate outer contoured square and small circle contour (top right) to be black.




Combat Driver Belt.jpg Belt
  • Constructed from a non-textured leather or similar material.
  • Belt is approximately 2" in width.
  • Olive or field grey in color.
  • Silver "Rebels" style buckle is constructed from horizontally brushed metal, or plastic material.
  • Within the buckle is a drawn circle.
  • (1) snap-rivet on the wearers right side of the buckle.
  • No holes or loops on the belt.




Combat Driver Shins.jpg Lower Leg Armor
  • Lower Leg Armor is olive or field grey in color.
  • Armor extends down over the foot and at the sides, but leaves the heal and toe sections exposed.
  • (3) equally spaced sections (approx' 1" width) around the shaft, with a adjuster buckle at the top (facing out to the side).
    • Sections are grey-green in color.
    • Black outlines between the Grey sections & Green of the Armour.




Combat Driver Boots.jpg Boots
  • Grey calf or ankle-high boots/shoes are made from leather or similar material.
  • There is a patch over the top of the boots to hide any laces.
    • Patch matches color of armor.
  • Soles of boots are flat and match the color of the armor.
  • At the tip of the toe are (2) black / gunship grey downward facing trapezoids.
    • One on each side of the tip.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


E11 Animated.jpg E-11 Blaster (animated style)
  • A simplified version of the E-11 Blaster.
  • A scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.
