Context: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Trained and equipped for combat in tropical environments, Shoretroopers patrol the beaches and bunkers of the secret Imperial complex on the planet Scarif.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GML's and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

  • Helmet is tan with moderate weathering.
  • There is an orange-red circular emblem on the right side of the visor, approximately 3 cm in diameter.
  • Visor is trimmed in black along the lower edge.
  • Ear covers have one closed recces with 1 large and 1 small raised circle.
  • “Hole”pattern snout aerator.
  • One recces vent on each side of the aerator.
  • 2 wedge shaped recesses on the outer edge of each mandible.
  • Rear/side of the helmet has 6 closed recess on each side (total 12).
  • Rear bottom helmet lip has 2 long closed recces.
  • Two six finned chin greeblies.
  • Lenses sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Helmet base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Circular emblem matches PANTONE 18-1445 TPX ("Spicy Orange") closely.
  • Chin Cup and strap added (hard hat chin strap with cup with 3 oblong cut outs).
  • Lenses are curved.
  • Second ridge on top of the tear drop that's sits against the lens must be present.
  • (Optional) Under the blaster shield and above the lens, there is the black recess curve, at each end there are 3 oblong shaped recess each 5mm x 3mm.
  • (Optional) 6 closed vent slots on each side of the helmet are slightly angled forward towards the face.
  • (Optional) rectangle recess at the top inner mandibles.
  • (Optional) rear end of the ear plate is slightly angled forward towards the face.

A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin and/or facial hair.

  • The upper neck seal ribbed section is dark grey, black is acceptable.
  • Fitted upper neck seal has horizontal ribbing.
  • The neck seal bib has vertical ribbing and the bib is the same colour and material as the undershirt.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The neck seal and bib fitted zip that zips from top to bottom.





ST Shirt-LG.png Shirt
  • Dark grey ribbed material with Horizontal ribbing on arms and torso.
  • Separate shirt and/or separate neck seal with bib (Neck seal is dark grey or black with horizontal ribs. The bib has vertical ribbing and is the same colour and material as the undershirt).
  • A neck seal and bib with vertical ribbing attached to the shirt is acceptable. The fitted neck seal and bib must meet the same criteria as the separate neck seal.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The shirt is made from cotton jersey material and has a honeycomb shaped mesh material under the armpit running from the stitch seam and forward towards the chest.
  • The neck seal and bib fitted zip that zips from top to bottom.





ST ChestPlate-LG.jpg Chest Plate
  • Chest plate is tan with moderate weathering, with an approximate 5cm horizontal stripe across the upper chest painted grey-blue leaving tan indentations in between sections.
  • Features yellow 'U' emblem on the bottom left above the black recess.
  • Black foam extends past the arm openings.
  • Recess on the bottom left must be present and painted black.
  • Chest and back plate attach with shoulder straps and meets flush at the lower sides.
  • Buckle greeblies attached to upper chest plate.
  • Shoulder straps are tan with moderate weathering and are attached to the chest plate at the buckle.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, light spray of Matt black and grey ageing spray.
  • Plastezote is desired for the foam, however plastezote material style is acceptable.
  • The shoulder buckle has a slight different shape to the shin buckles. Pin bar closed and not split above the screw; Screw grove is covered and the rear lever bar is longer on length and the curve is slighter and more square than shin buckle.
  • (Optional)The Buckles have a 25mm x 10mm x 6mm slot attachment fitted to the front buckle bar.
  • (Optional) The Chest plate has a slot recces 27mm x 12 mm x 3mm for the buckles to 'slot' into; the buckle sits 2-3mm above the chest plate.





ST BackPlate-LG.jpg Back Plate
  • Black foam extends past the arm openings.
  • Back Plate has a collar that extends upwards and tapers to the chest plate.
  • Chest and back plate meet flush at the sides.
  • Back has two large cut out recesses with vent details and greeblies inside.
  • The walls and floor of the two large recess boxes can be black or dark brown.
  • Each recess has different and specific set of black or brown greeblies inside:
    • Left side recess has a rectangle shape greeblie with an angled right side end with 5 panels. The first left panel has a tube on top that then runs up the left side and then across the top of the recces. On the right side a heat sink greeblie is fitted.
    • Right side recess has a long thin strip has 2 flat ends with approximately 17 cylinder shaped teeth in the middle. Below it is a rectangle shape greeblie with a moon shaped end on the right. Approximately 1/3 of the left side is flat followed by a thin line recces and 7x3 rows of oblong shaped indents. On the right side is a circle type hose connector.
  • The vent details at the top of the recesses may be cut out and backed with black foam. If they are not cut out they must be painted black in between the slats.
  • Bottom left features a smaller rectangle cut out with the left side stepped. The floor of the cut out shall be black and the walls inside match the tan color of the armor.
  • Half circle indent detail beneath the backpack section must be present.
  • There is a circle recces on the top right hand side.
  • There is a long thin raised greeblie positioned central and below the 2 large recess/
  • There is a small raised circle greeblie positioned central and below the above named greeblie.
  • There is a raised slot on each shoulder for the straps to fit into.
  • Shoulder straps are tan with moderate weathering and are affixed to the chest plate at the buckle.
  • Back plate is tan with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Plastezote is desired for the foam, however plastezote material style is acceptable.
  • There is a small circle cut out approximately 5mm in diameter above and to the left hand side corner of the left large recces.
  • There are 2 small square cut outs approximately 5mm x 5mm above and to the right hand side of the left large recces.
  • There are 2 small rectangle raised greeblies directly above both large recess vents.
  • There is a small recces on the bottom right side of the back plate.
  • There is a stepped ledge at the bottom of the main back box.
  • There is a rectangle shaped line cut recces on the edge of the back plate, positioned halfway down the right side.
  • There are 2 small rectangle recess directly behind both raised shoulder strap slots.





ST shoretrooper abdomen.png Abdomen Section
  • The vertical areas on both sides of the raised center abdomen plate are painted black.
  • Inside the right hand black area is a stepped pyramid detail.
  • Central ab section has a raised square section with a raised plate, on the left side of the plate is one large ridged rectangle with nine rises ridged below. Above the central section is a double lone rectangle greeblie.
  • The left hand black area contains a longer rectangular detail.
  • The rear has a central cover plate.
  • Abdomen section is tan with moderate weathering.

  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.

  • The sides have one diagonal raised strip.
  • There is a black stripe behind the diagonal raised strip.

  • Shoulders should be symmetrical with the ridge along the center of the shoulder bell, this is raised and beveled.
  • Right shoulder is tan with moderate weathering. The upper half is painted grey-blue and lines up with the stripe on the chest plate.
  • Left shoulder is tan with moderate weathering. One horizontal white stripe, and two smaller black stripes on each side. The section above the black stripes is painted grey-blue.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The top black stripe is thicker than the bottom black stripe.
  • Armor base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, light spray of Matt black and grey ageing spray.
  • White color is matte White.
  • Black color is matte Black.





ST shoretrooper biceps.png Biceps
  • Bicep cover strips are raised and beveled with a added strip layer on top.
  • Left bicep is tan with moderate weathering.
  • Right bicep armor is painted red with three yellow rectangular stripes on the cover strip, with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Right Bicep Red color is Toyota Red 3E5.
  • Yellow color is Flat yellow.





ST shoretrooper forearm.png Forearms
  • Forearm cover strips are raised and beveled with a added strip layer on top.
  • Raised section with a hard corner. Contains twelve recessed areas.
  • Forearm may be shortened due to height restrictions.
  • Forearms are tan with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.





ST shoretroper gloves.png Gloves/Hand Plates
  • Black gloves with black leather or leather-like material on the palm, thumb, and forefinger. The palm has 5 raised padded sections.
  • The black oval detail is aligned with the index finger of each hand.
  • Gloves extend underneath the forearm armor.
  • Hand plates are tan with moderate weathering.
  • Roughly pentagonal in shape, with an oblong recess on the front edge. The hand plates are mounted securely over the back of the gloves.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Hand Plate armor color is Sahara Beige.





ST shoretrooper belt C.png Belt
  • Belt is black and made from two nylon straps sewn together with a zig-zag stitch pattern down the middle. The belt width is approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide.
  • Belt Features: Four standard drop boxes, two medium boxes with top detail, and two small pyramid shaped boxes on either side of a center buckle.
  • Boxes are tan with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Drop boxes and Buckle base color is Sahara Beige.





ST shoretrooper thermaldet C.png Rear Belt Plate Assembly
  • Each part of the assembly is attached to a belt cover plate the same width as the belt.
  • Assembly consists of one horizontal thermal detonator and two standard drop boxes.
  • The horizontal thermal detonator is a circular canister with evenly spaced grooves extending to the end caps. The end caps have a recess on the top.
  • One standard drop box on the each side of the thermal detonator.
  • All pieces are tan with moderate weathering.

  • Armour plate, Detonator and Drop Box base color is Sahara Beige.





ST shoretrooper kama.png Kama
  • Made from a black nylon or canvas like material that appears weathered and worn.
  • Kama is split up the center.
  • The rear of the Kama extends at the rear to behind the lower area of the wearer’s knee.
  • The front of the Kama extends to approximately level with the bottom of the shin buckle.
  • Worn around the waist under the armor.
  • A large black grommet is placed at the bottom front outside corners.

ST Pants-LG.png Trousers
  • Fabric is a brown cotton canvas/duck cloth material.
  • Breeches style that flare out to the sides like riding breeches above the knee and below the drop boxes.
  • Breeches are moderately weathered.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Breeches have the correct stitching lines and the diamond shape pattern on the inside of the knee area.
  • Breeches have two vertical rows of lace holes with black laces that run from beneath the outside of the knee to the bottom of the leg.





ST shoretrooper shins.png Shins
  • Cover Strips are raised as beveled with a added layer strip on top.
  • Shin greaves should close in the back.
  • The trapezoid shin plate (sniper knee plate) is affixed to the left greave.
  • The “T” shin plate is affixed to the right greave.
  • A harness style buckle greeblie attached to the outside edge of the upper shin plate.
  • A ski boot style buckle greeblie is attached to the outside edge of the lower shin plate.
  • Straps extend from each buckle, and the inner side of the shin plate.
  • The straps may have a gap in the back of the shin or extend around the shin in one piece.
  • Shins are tan with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • The top layer on the rear raised cover strip ends under the top buckle strapping and the bottom layer continues to the top edge.
  • The strap will fit all the way around the upper and lower leg connections with no gap. Moulded straps are not acceptable for level 2.





ST shoretrooper boots.png Boots
  • The boot is Orca Bay Brecon Chelsea style.
  • Similar matching style brown boots are acceptable.
  • The boots should be weathered.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Boots must be Orca Bay Brecon Chelsea Boots (Havana, Sand or Elk all acceptable when weathered correctly).





Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

  • Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, cast, 3D print or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.
  • Tactical flashlight (Surefire scout M300 or replica) mounted on right side of barrel.
  • Magazine is extended length.
  • Power cylinder is larger with 2 outer cylinders and 2 smaller central cylinder
  • Scope is a M38 1943 version.
  • Scope rail can be fitted with rail blocks and a middle rail support block is optional.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Base is based on S&T Airsoft sterling with closed working parts (no spring)
  • Screws used are M4 x 25mm Allen screw/bolts and sunken Allen screws for power cylinders.

  • Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, cast, 3D print or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster. It has a extended stock attached at the rear and a extended front housing with second lower barrel.
  • Tactical flashlight (Surefire scout M300 or replica) mounted on right side of barrel.
  • Magazine is extended length.
  • Power cylinder is larger with 2 outer cylinders and 2 smaller central cylinders
  • Scope is a M38 1943 version
  • Scope rail is fitted onto rail blocks, one inside the rear sight and the other at the front end of the rail.
  • There are 3 swivel studs fitted, one on the rear stock and one each side of the front barrel housing.
  • Sling is 25mm webbing strap that is adjustable using a silver 25mm 3 fixed bar webbing buckle (optional).
  • Sling is fitted with Talon quick release 25mm swivel or replica (optional).
  • Red lights fitted on both sides of the rear housing, Hengstler fitted with a red light for the 3 forward tubes and 2 small red lights fitted into the rear barrel housing under the torch, the lights are permanent and are non flashing or pulsed (optional hero version only).
