	Description: TIE Pilot, ANH Prefix: TI Detachment: Jolly Roger Squadron Context: Star Wars: Episode 4 TIE Pilots serve in the Imperial Navy by piloting the various TIE series starfighters.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. While the Jolly Roger Squadron does not have any detachment specific costume certification programs, some parts of the costume below may be shared with other detachments that do. Features listed in blue or red are not required for 501st approval, but are noted here for those interested in these additional details.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type. This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum. GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum. Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval. Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size. Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GML's and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

	Helmet See the TIE Helmet Detail page for more views and information about canon paint schemes. Helmet may have flat or bubbled lenses in dark gray or dark green. The helmet has imperial code disks (greeblies) affixed to the ear wells. Code disk has a notch in it on the outermost disk. The notch points upward. Two 2.75" diameter Imperial emblems in either white or silver should be on the crest of the helmet as seen in the diagrams found on the "TIE Helmet Detail page" in the link above. The frown between the teeth may optionally be cut out. If the teeth are cut out, the openings are backed by mesh that conceals the face. There is a "pill box" on the lower portion of the mohawk on the back of the helmet. The inner outfacing edges of the pill box have a 1/8" thick white border. Pill box does not need to be functional. There are two plastic retaining clips in the recessed areas on either side of the middle trident piece on the forehead. Nissan retaining clips are most accurate. S-trim on the bottom opening of the helmet is optional Colors of markings may range from chrome to silver, brushed aluminum to light gray to dark gray (gun metal), but must remain consistent throughout.

	Hoses Black Ribbed Hoses with a 1.25" diameter on each end and 15" to 21" of length from the helmet hose ports to the upper chest box hose ports.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Hoses are black, ribbed vacuum cleaner hoses

	Balaclava A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin and/or facial hair.

	Flight Suit One piece black coverall/jumpsuit/flight suit with a front invisible zipper. Approximately 1.5" (38.1mm) tall mandarin collar with a chevron shaped, left-over-right velcro closure. There is a horizontal seam or double-topstitched line that runs across the upper chest, but does not extend around the back. A silver or white Imperial Cog emblem, on a black background, is present on both shoulders. The cog is 3" or 3.5" in diameter, and 1" from the shoulder seam. On the left forearm there is a compad pocket, approximately 5" (127mm) wide by 5.75" (146.05mm) tall, with no flap and a 2.25" (57.15mm) window in it. Size might vary to match specific compad. On the left bicep, about 2"(50.8mm) below the cog emblem, there is a code cylinder pocket with no flap, and vertical stitching dividing it into pen sleeves. The bottom front corner of the pocket is cut off at a bevel on the side pointing in view direction, with the broader upside forming the border of the pen sleeves. The right sleeve has a cargo pocket, about 6" (152mm) wide and 5.75" (146mm) on the bicep, and approximately 2"(50.8mm) below the cog emblem. The pocket has a 2"(50.8mm) flap. (2) large chest pockets and (2) large front pockets below the belt, without any zipper or flaps. (2) leg pockets with flaps, similar in proportion as the right arm sleeve pocket. Size may differ - (Usually the width of the front pockets equals the width of the leg pockets). There are no rank bars of any kind on the uniform. There are no leg pockets below the knees.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Imperial patches on the shoulders are printed vinyl rather than embroidered. The suit has a pointed collar in the back.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): At the top corner of the bevel, there is a horizontal stitch that runs the length of the first 3 pen sleeves.

	Patches White or silver embroidered or vinyl matching the reference photos as closely as possible.

	Imperial Communications Pad Rectangular communications pad, with buttons and detailing as shown, on a grey or silver background. Comm pad is contoured slightly to fit the arm.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Compad is not electronically lit.

	Black Gauntlet Gloves Black, leather or leather-like, enclosed fingered, non-textured, (normal leather grain/texture/lines are acceptable) fitted gauntlet style. No buckles, straps, or decorative stitching. Three straight lines, on the back of the hand (that match some references), are optional.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Gloves are made of leather.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Gauntlets slightly flair-out, upward from the wrist to the mid-forearm.

	Armor Armor consists of the front and back pieces as shown, with two shoulder straps anchored with Chicago screws through an octagon of plastic on each end. Black nylon webbing or elastic is allowed to aid in the snug fit of the armor on the wearers sides. The shoulder straps are not load bearing and care should be taken to prevent cracking. Molded rubber ribbed shoulder straps are also a suitable option
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Shoulder straps are plastic

	Chestbox The chestbox is required to have the same configurations as seen in the photo. The box has 4-1" square x 1/8th" thick detail pieces. There are several canon configurations that are acceptable: 2 white, 2 blue 1 Red, 1 White, 2 Blue 1 Gray, 1 White, 2 Blue. There is a 1/8" thick white pinstripe border around the square detail pieces There are two,18 mm round indicator lights above the rocker switches. One white, one red respectively. There are 3 rocker switches below the round indicator lights. The rockers are always gray, white, gray. The gray rockers have red dots or lamps in their bottom. There is a 1/8" thick white pinstripe that runs horizontally across the bottom portion of the box. There is a male silver snap and a silver round disc with cone knob on the lower portion of the box below the horizontal pinstripe. There are two "gear" type greeblies affixed to either end of the lower tube portion of the box. Theses greeblies are painted the same gray color as the rocker switches. Any lights or LED's added to the chest box are required to be approved by GML.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Chest box is not electronically lit

	Belt The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material. Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width, up to 3" (76.2 mm) is acceptable. There are no loops on the belt. A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle. The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the wearer. The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material. The buckle size is approximately 2 5/8" (66.7 mm) high and 4 1/8" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners. Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center. Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Belt is made of leather. Snap is worn to the left of the wearer. Buckle has a slight horizontal curve.

	Boots Calf high black leather or leather like material. Normal leather grain/texture/lines are acceptable Free of laces, decorative stitching, buckles on the instep or any other embellishments. Boots may have a single adjustment strap at the top outside of the boot, with the buckle no wider than 1". This need not be functional. Jackboot buckles should not be shiny/can be painted dingy grey or gun-metal color. Hobnails may be present on the front of the jackboots. Tread on the soles and heels is acceptable Zippers on the inside of the boot are acceptable, so long as they are concealed by the same material as the boot German "jack boot" style boots are most canon.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Boots are made of leather.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Original German jack boots (or “Knobelbechers”) or an authentic replication thereof. Boots have the top adjustment strap.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

	Code Cylinders 1 to 3 may be worn Rod Style: machined aluminum, resin or wood rod with flaring disc detail at top.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): "Hero" cylinders are machined aluminum "Stunt" cylinders are wood and painted the same color as the helmet markings.

• A blaster that is canon for this character may be carried or worn in a holster on the belt. Holster must match blaster type. If a blaster is not carried, no holster is worn.
